Vitamix 5200 vs 7500 Review: Critical Features To Look For – High-Performance & Adjustable Vitamix Blenders For Everyday Use & For Beginners!

I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Make this the year you finally buy a high-performance and user-friendly blender like the Vitamix 5200 vs 7500. It crosses off everything a mixer, blender, and food processor can do – all in one.

But between the 5200 vs 7500, the blender that outperforms the other is the Vitamix 7500. It’s powerful and efficient to use. It breaks down everything in a breeze. And isn’t exhausting or time-consuming to clean as well afterwards. The wide and short profile of the 64-ounce is better than the narrow and tall one of the 5200 – the latter being tricky to clean because of its tall size.

If I were you, getting together all your prep on a day-to-day basis is a lot easier and quicker with a blender like the Vitamix 7500 by your side. The Vitamix 5200 is good for those who want to make smaller servings and have extra space in their kitchen for storage.

Vitamix 5200 vs 7500: Differences

The Vitamix 7500 wins 3 – 1 in competition with the Vitamix 5200. For the rewarding reasons that it has a compact design, powerful motor, and can run for longer than the 5200 without overheating.

1. Blending Performance

 The Winner: Vitamix 7500

Vitamix 7500 Blending Performance
Vitamix 7500 Blending Performance

+Power

This blender is not only sturdy and user-friendly, it’s also quite powerful. If your plan is to use a blender for minutes at a time you need a powerfully efficient motor. The Vitamix 7500 features a 2.2 HP motor with overheating protection. This means the blender will amend the tiniest error or lagging or overloading in the motor to avoid automatic turn-off.

Vitamix machines have a safety standard in place that automatically turns off the blender if the motor is running too hot which may be dangerous for the user.

In the case of the Vitamix 5200, this safety auto-off exists. The 5200 features a 2.0 HP motor with auto turn-off in case of overheating. But the 7500 goes a little further and ensures that you can use the blender for longer without the motor heating up. The cooling fans run faster and more powerfully to avoid overheating at any cost.

What does this mean for you?

This means that you probably use the Vitamic 7500 for longer (at a time) than the 5200 before the motor will begin to heat up and automatically turn off as a safety precaution.

+Blade Size

Moving on, for a 64-ounce container, a blender should have 4-inch stainless steel blades. That is a must. But, unfortunately, the Vitamix 5200 features 3-inch blades. Only the 7500 offers 4-inch blades which makes it the better performer.

So what can’t the Vitamix 5200 do that the 7500 can?

The first thing you should know is that both blenders can blend the same exact ingredients, thanks to their 10 variable speed settings. The 5200 can blend frozen fruits, seeds, herbs, dry fruits, ice, nuts, dough, and soft-shell and hard-shell foods. The same applies to the 7500.

The difference, because of 5200’s smaller blades, is how well and fast it can do so. This also includes the portion size of the blending.

Because of the small blades, you have to put a little less in the 5200 to blend at a time. Even though the capacity is 64 ounces. Since the design of the carafe is slimmer and taller, adding more may result in a slightly lumpy and chunky blend.

So make sure you fill-up the jar only 1/2 to 2/3 of the space, and leave room on the top portion for the ingredients to blend well and not put too much pressure on the blades underneath.

And always layer your ingredients with foods that are difficult to blend on top. If you place stringy foods or seeds or nuts on the bottom layer, the blades won’t be able to break it down effectively.

You won’t face such inconsistencies in blending effect with the Vitamix 7500 because the base of the container jar is wide and the blades are 4-inches in diameter which is perfect for producing creamy and smooth textures.

2. Controls / Settings

The Winner: Vitamix 5200

+Weight

Where the 5200 is taller, it is also lighter than the 7500. This is a good thing because it allows you to move the 5200 around without it feeling like a burden.

The cumbersome and invasive height of the 5200 can be quite putting off. But knowing that it’s not heavy to move around, makes it better. The design of the 7500 is wider than it is taller. It is around 2.2 inches wider than the 5200 which contributes to the 7500’s being heavier as well.

So moving the 7500 is not as easy and effortless of an effort as the 5200. That’s for sure.

The 7500 weighs 12.5 lbs while the 5200 weighs 10.9 lbs. So there is a slight but important nevertheless distinction of more than 1 lbs.

To sum up, I’d give the Vitamix 5200 high marks in the portability test. But not for compactness or storage.

3. Cleaning & Maintenance

The Winner: Vitamix 7500

Customers have a love-and-hate relationship with the container jar of the Vitamix 5200. On the one hand, since the blade size is small, it is easier and faster to clean. But on the other hand, because of the slim and tall container jar design, reaching the base where the blades are attached is quite difficult.

Moreover, the blades on the 5200 are not removable which makes cleaning even trickier. The low-profile design of the 7500’s 64-ounce container jar is wide and short. You can reach the blades easily even though they aren’t removable either. But the wider design makes it simpler to get under the blades to get rid of any food or stains.

Both blenders come with a self-cleaning feature which feels more like a blessing in the 5200, to be honest, because there’s no way you’re going to reach the blades of that thin and tall jar easily. The self-cleaning feature cleans effectively in that it gets rid of any stuck food particular lodged underneath the blades. And the powerful force of warm soapy water will remove odours and stains quickly.

4. Utilities

The Winner: Vitamix 7500

+Height

Unlike the 5200, the 7500 is compatible with countertops with cabinets on top. The Vitamix 5200 features a tall container design, up to 20.5 inches in height which may be cumbersome for people. The Vitamix 7500 features a 17.5-inch container which is not bad at all. It sits perfectly well on most countertops without becoming a nuisance to the store.

Both blenders have 64-ounce jars. They are BPA-free plastic with stainless steel blades. But there is a difference in weight and size measurements when you compare how ergonomic and space-friendly both blenders are.

The Vitamix 7500 comes out at the top as being the more compact choice for home kitchens. While the Vitamix 5200 is the lightest.

Vitamix 5200 vs 7500: Similarities

1. Blending Features

Features like the 64-ounce container jar, 10 variable speed settings, and the Pulse feature directly affect the blending performance of both machines. And in these settings, both blenders have all the above-mentioned features in common,

The 64-ounce translates to 1.8 litres of capacity. This is approximately 6-8 cups in blending capacity. And you can add a minimum of 2 cups of ingredients at a time.

This is a convenient option for large families and parties. For less than 3 people, however, the capacity may be too large and not worth spending so much money on. If you’re one of these people, you can opt for a personal blender with a 48-ounce capacity.

Moving on, both blenders also feature 10 variable speed settings. This offers 10 different speed levels for blending any and all types of ingredients. Such as fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, dry fruits, coffee beans, batter ingredients, butter ingredients, dough, ice, etc.

‘10’ being the highest speed, both blenders also feature the Pulse button. This button provides short bursts of “pulsating” or blending to quickly get rid of any leftover chunks or pieces or lumps in the blend. If you want high speed, and you want it only for a few seconds, not any longer, this will be helpful.

2. Cleaning Features

The Vitamix 5200 and 7500 come with a self-cleaning feature, BPA-free plastic design, and a cooling fan.

This is how self-cleaning works. And mind you, this cleans LITERALLY EVERYTHING! So it’s a huge life-saver for people who want to make butter or hummus at home.

After blending the food and emptying out the container, put it back on the blender and add warm soapy water – up to a level that does not overcrowd the container. You can read the instruction manual to get accurate levels.

Then place the lid back on and start the self-cleaning mode. And blender will turn the inside of that jar from sticky and blotchy to shiny and odourless in less than a minute.

Regardless of the food that was previously in the jar, the Vitamix blenders do clean themselves in less than a minute. Sometimes less 30 seconds if you’ve made a smoothie or ice drink that’s easier to clean.

The cooling fan prevents overheating of the motor under intense blending conditions. If you’re making soup that requires you to keep blending for a few extra minutes to create friction (heat) or you’re making peanut butter which everyone knows can be a mess to clean up. The cooling fan will not allow the motor to heat up even at high speeds. It remains noiseless, vibration-free, and very sturdy.

Additional features like the cookbook, tamper, and 7-year warranty make both blenders special.
